What is Parvo-Virus?

Parvo-virus, or Canine Parvovirus (CPV), is a highly contagious and potentially fatal viral disease that primarily affects unvaccinated puppies under one year of age. This virus attacks the gastrointestinal tract and, in severe cases, can also damage the heart muscles in very young puppies.

❗ Why is Parvo-Virus Dangerous?
The virus spreads rapidly and is extremely resilient, surviving on surfaces like clothes, vehicles, floors, and even human hands for 6 months to 1 year. It spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or indirect contact with contaminated objects, stools, or people.
The incubation period is short β€” just 2 to 5 days, meaning puppies can become seriously ill very quickly after exposure.
🐢 Common Symptoms of Parvo-Virus:
If you notice any of the following symptoms in your puppy, seek veterinary help immediately:
β€’ High fever
β€’ Severe depression and lethargy
β€’ Vomiting (sometimes bloody)
β€’ Diarrhoea (often foul-smelling and bloody)
β€’ Dehydration (visible through sunken eyes and glassy look)
β€’ Anaemia (due to blood loss)
β€’ Shock – a life-threatening condition due to fluid loss
πŸ’Š Treatment for Parvo-Virus:
There is no direct cure, but supportive care can save lives. Treatment should be done under veterinary supervision and may include:
β€’ Antibiotics – to prevent secondary bacterial infections
β€’ Anti-inflammatories – to reduce internal swelling
β€’ Anti-emetics – to stop vomiting
β€’ Fluids & electrolytes – to rehydrate and maintain body balance
β€’ Warmth – hot water bottle wrapped in a towel
β€’ Nutritional support – bland, easy-to-digest food
β€’ Lots of love and extra care

βœ… Prevention is Better than Cure:
The most effective way to protect your puppy is through timely vaccination. Make sure your pet’s vaccination schedule is up to date, especially in the first few months of life.
🚨 Final Note:
Parvo-virus is deadly but completely preventable with proper vaccination and hygiene. Always be alert to early symptoms and avoid exposing unvaccinated puppies to public areas or other dogs.
Protect your furry friend β€” vaccinate, stay clean, and love responsibly.
